    Licensing

Each plate is offered under one of three licences. The base price shown on every plate corresponds to the personal-use licence; commercial and extended-commercial tiers are calculated as multiples of that base.

    Choosing the right licence

Start from how the image will be seen. If the plate will only hang in your home, sit in a personal portfolio or support your own study, the Personal licence is enough. As soon as the image helps sell something — a book, a magazine issue, a product, a service — the use becomes commercial.

The Commercial licence suits most publishing and editorial work: illustrated books and field guides, magazine features, educational material, exhibition graphics, packaging and marketing campaigns up to 10,000 impressions. The Extended commercial licence is intended for work where the illustration itself is the product, such as posters, art prints and merchandise sold in any quantity, as well as television, film and animated use.

    What every licence includes

Every licence is a single payment with no subscription or renewal. You receive the full-resolution master file without watermark, suitable for high-quality print, and you may crop, resize or combine it with text and design for the permitted use. The rights are granted to one licensee and are not transferable; the copyright in the artwork remains with Curiosa Naturalis.

    What is not permitted

No licence allows reselling or redistributing the digital file itself, offering it as a stock image, using it in a logo or trademark, or presenting the plate as your own original artwork.

    Credits and upgrades

Where credits are normally printed, please use “Illustration © Curiosa Naturalis”. If your project grows, you can upgrade to a higher tier at any time by paying the difference.
