    Terms of Use

The understanding between the Atelier and those who study, license or reproduce its plates.

    Last updated — 22 April 2026

    1. Acceptance

By browsing the catalogue, creating an account, or licensing a plate from Curiosa Naturalis ("the Atelier", "we", "us"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

    2. The catalogue

All illustrations, captions, scientific notes, layouts and typographic ornaments published on this site are original works authored by the Atelier and protected by copyright. The watermarked previews are provided strictly for evaluation; they may not be reproduced, redistributed, traced, used for machine-learning training, or otherwise exploited without a valid licence.

    3. Accounts

To purchase a licence you must register an account with a working email address. You are responsible for the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use.

    4. Licences

Each plate is offered under one of three licences — Personal, Commercial, or Extended Commercial — described in detail on the Licensing page. The licence you select governs the permitted uses, print run, audience and territory. The Atelier retains all rights not expressly granted in the licence.

Licences are non-transferable and non-sublicensable. Resale of the file, in whole or in part, is prohibited.

    5. Downloads

Following a successful order, signed download links are issued to the email associated with the order. Links remain valid for a limited number of downloads and a limited period, after which they expire. It is the licensee's responsibility to retain a local copy of the master file.

    6. Prohibited use

You may not (a) attempt to remove, alter or obscure watermarks or metadata; (b) scrape, mirror or systematically download the catalogue; (c) submit the work, in whole or in part, to a generative-AI training corpus; (d) use the work in a manner that is unlawful, defamatory, or that promotes hatred or violence.

    7. Payment & refunds

Prices are quoted in the currency shown at checkout and exclude applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. Because licensed digital files are delivered immediately upon payment, all sales are final. Refunds may be considered, at our discretion, where a file is demonstrably defective and we are unable to remedy the defect.

    8. Warranties

The catalogue is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Atelier disclaims all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, save that we warrant we are the author of the plates and entitled to grant the licences offered.

    9. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Atelier's aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with these Terms or any licence shall not exceed the amount paid by the licensee for the plate in question. We shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages.

    10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access — and any outstanding licences — in the event of material breach of these Terms, including the prohibitions in section 6. Sections concerning intellectual property, warranties, liability and governing law survive termination.

    11. Changes

We may revise these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new "last updated" date. Continued use of the site after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

    12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at the seat of the Atelier, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The courts of that jurisdiction shall have exclusive competence over any dispute arising from these Terms, save where mandatory consumer protection law provides otherwise.

    13. Contact

Questions concerning these Terms may be addressed to the Atelier via the contact channels listed on the About page.
